NEVER TOO LATE -- Excerpt

Want a little taste of my newest book, NEVER TOO LATE, which is now available. Enjoy!

One minute he was showing off the old car, which had taken him some time to restore after the owner had sold it to him for a song, and the next he and Kit had closed in the space between them for a kiss. First one kiss, then the second, then he’d lost count. They were kissing and wrapped up in each other’s arms. The temperature in the car had instantaneously gotten as hot as the sun in the tropics.
Kit interrupted a kiss to ask in a worried tone, “I hope you don’t get the wrong idea about me.”
“Wrong idea? What? No, babe, no.”
He’d had his share of girlfriends when he was younger. He’d been with his wife, though he wondered how long they would have lasted together if she hadn’t died. There had even been a woman here and there afterwards, but his heart hadn’t been into it.
His heart was into it now. His whole body was into it, in fact.
“Can anybody see us in here?” she asked.
“We can—we can go in the house. Quickly.” Andrew was so turned on, and it had been so long, he didn’t know if he’d make it to the bedroom.
Yet he’d do his best to hang on. It wasn’t easy, with her and her kisses and her body driving him crazy.
“Well, if they can’t see us, this is kinda fun. Kinda naughty.” Even her giggle was adorable. “I don’t want to mess up your show car, though.”
“I’ve got a drop cloth in the garage. Used it for painting the living room this year. If you don’t mind, I can drape it over the backseat. It’d be a lot more comfortable back there, too.”
“No, I don’t mind. Let’s do it!” Her enthusiasm added a sparkle to her eye. “In the backseat of a guy’s car. Now I really feel like a bad girl!”
She probably did have some bad girl in her, too. Andrew thought about that as he hurried to get the large cloth. It was a bit dusty from being in the garage, but the heck with it. He could always vacuum the Charger sometime later that week. He would’ve had to be out of his mind to let a little dust come between him and sex with the beautiful, redheaded minx who’d sashayed into his life. Also, it took him an extra couple of minutes, but he found the condoms he kept in the downstairs bedroom and stuffed them into his pocket.
When he returned, he found Kit waiting for him, leaning against the door and smiling. Her legs were crossed at the ankles. Andrew was certain he looked like an eager teenager, unable to wipe the smirk from his face.
“I’ll do that,” she said, taking the heavy, paint-dotted cloth from his hands.
“Are you sure? I just thought of something. The paint’s dried on that thing, but you might get your dress dirty.”
“Eh, that’s what drycleaners are for. Besides, that’s a small price to pay for being with you tonight.”
Immediately, he understood why she’d offered to spread the tarp over the backseat. That meant half of her was in the car, while the other half of her—the bottom half—was mostly out. The fabric of her dress was stretched taut across her behind, and the back muscles of her legs were tightened. His little bad girl was taunting him with the view.
It was a night of gambles. He’d gambled with the chance she wouldn’t show up for dinner at the Tavern. He’d taken a chance she wouldn’t keep kissing him, which had led them to this exciting point in the evening. Now there was one more gamble he could take, the one with the odds stacked against it.
“Hey, you know, you shouldn’t tease like that, young lady,” he warned, maintaining a jovial tone. “You might find yourself over my knee, getting spanked.”
“Ouch!”

Andrew widened his eyes. He hadn’t meant to distract her, and now she’d banged her head while trying to get out of the car and straighten up. Was she about to go all liberated woman on him?

A, B & C!

Yes! I'm cheating, shamelessly so, getting the first 3 letters down on June 3rd because I missed the first couple of days of the blog hop. Forgive me! But I want to make sure I get on track tomorrow with only one letter to deal with, LOL!

So with no further ado, for your entertainment, here are A, B & C. However, there is a common thread to these three letters...and that would be just a few favorite things found in a spankable romance heroine's closet, items of clothing romantic spanking heroes would find fun, too.

Those would be:

Apron--as in, like one of those cute, little, frilly aprons (think French maid-style). The kind of apron women wore to do housework and cook in the 1950s and '60s would work, nicely, too, though. Aprons are rather convenient for heroes, also, in that they aren't cumbersome or in the way at all, and the heroine can get right back to her chores after getting her comeuppance!

Baby Doll Nightie. Need I say more? Those tend to versatile in that most heroines have a huge variety, in lots of colors besides black and red, and they tend to wear them from the spanking scene straight into the love scene. In other words, your heroine wears 'em for less than an hour.

Last but not least,

Cowgirl Threads, usually worn by our cowgirl heroines. For the sake of diversity, however, a city heroine who somehow lands herself onto a ranch with a no-nonsense cowboy could easily trade in her high heels for a pair of well-worn jeans and boots, as well as finding herself in hot water with said cowboy! Sure wouldn't be the first time. ;D

And I've been remiss, in general, with blogging, so watch for my updates (and interviews and guest blogs with your favorite spanking romance authors) coming up in April!

Excerpt from KISSED BY THE OUTLAW

Here's a snippet from my brand-new western/time travel from BLUSHING BOOKS. Enjoy!

“When I started out this day, it was November,” she told him. “And the year was 2014. The mountain was in North Carolina.”

McSwain didn’t answer right away. He bit the corner of his lip pensively, staring straight ahead of them.

She’s crazy, he decided. She had to be. Kelly Long seemed too convinced of what she was saying to be lying. There was the matter, too, of the odd clothing she was wearing, and that small contraption she’d called a “cell.” Or was it a “phone?” She’d used both words to describe it.

What if she wasn’t crazy? What if she really had come from 2014 North Carolina?

Besides being of questionable sanity, and prickly, to boot, she was also pretty. A very pretty, highly attractive woman. Mature in age, if not in behavior. He couldn’t deny he found it hard to keep his eyes off her. Yet those days for him were over. Starting his life over at forty-five, a woman was indeed the very last thing he needed. Perhaps in his younger days he would have considered it, but not now.

Especially not with a woman like Kelly Long. This high-strung beauty supposedly from the future.

“You got any idea how far North Carolina is from here?” He asked the question more to break the awkward silence between them.
“Exactly. That’s what I mean.” Kelly turned in her seat to face him. “How does this happen? I mean, one minute I’m hiking on West Mountain. The next I’m checking out a cascade and falling into the cave behind it, just falling, falling, falling.”

“Uhm…checking out?” McSwain scowled at her. “How do you do that?”

Kelly sighed in frustration. She didn’t want to insult him. If anything, as scruffy and stern as he was, he was putting out an effort to understand her. That didn’t change the fact, however, that she was becoming more and more distressed.

“I was walking up the mountain, but I got off the trail and went to look at it. Oh—well, now. I got off the trail to get a picture of the deer, and—oh, yes! There were the lights!” She was beginning to remember. “McSwain, where are you taking me?”

“To town. I’m hoping somebody there will know who you are.”

“No one there will know me. Can you forget about going to town?”

“Well, I think maybe you should see Dr. Fairlane. You did hit your head pretty hard on that tree limb—”

“Oh, yeah, don’t worry about that,” she insisted and rubbed her head. “I’m fine, really. Just fine.”

Hmmm. Let’s let the doctor decide that, all right?”

She held back the urge to scream. Why did he have to be so stubborn? “I’d rather you take me back to the cascade.”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“C’mon, McSwain! Work with me here! The cascade. The waterfall…” Kelly forced a smile. “If I can get back to the waterfall and—and I fall back into the water, maybe it’s—it’s like a portal or something. And I can get back to North Carolina and out of your hair. Okay?”

McSwain moaned and rubbed his face. She was dizzying him with all her talk. “How do you know that’ll work?”

“I don’t know. But, hey, it works on The Twilight Zone, so it’s worth a shot!” She could hear the desperation in her tone of voice. “Take me there, please.”

“Kelly, take you where?”

“To the waterfall!” she shouted.

He raised his voice right back at her. “I already told you, woman! I don’t know of any waterfall around here!”

Angrily, she tossed her head. “Well, then you stop this wagon and let me off right now. If you can’t help me, I’ll find the waterfall myself.”

“I ain’t letting you off here in the middle of the woods. I’ve gotta get some supplies in town, and I’m not leaving you alone in these woods.”

“You stop this wagon or I swear I’ll jump right off it!”

Fine! She wants off so badly, let her get off!

McSwain fought the temptation. He had done a lot of bad things in his day, things he certainly wasn’t proud of. Things that had sent him to prison. But none of those things included abandoning a woman in the woods, where wild animals or outlaws could get at her.

Even a crazy, hardheaded woman deserved to be protected. Kelly Long’s problem was, ironically, that she needed protection from her own foolishness.

“Young lady, you’d better not jump off the wagon,” he warned, his voice low.

“Oh, no? You just watch me!”

McSwain bit back a cuss word as he watched her twist around in her seat with that little dog in her arms. She was going to do it—she fully intended to jump off that wagon and probably over the side of that hill, possibly killing herself or injuring herself seriously. Of all the crazy, foolhardy, obstinate things to do!

“Whoa!” He pulled hard on the reins.

“Oh? So you see it my way? Finally!” she spat the words at him. “What—what are you doing?”

He had clamped his hands on her waist and tugged her closer to him. Not an easy feat, hopping off the wagon while yanking her off with him. He was afraid to come around the front and pull her down, just in case she decided to trample him with his own wagon.
“What are you doing? You—let me go!”

She sounded scared now. Good. He hated to admit it, but he preferred it to her crazy shouts and threats.

To top it off, her little dog had tumbled out of her arms and was yapping away furiously at the big, bad man hauling her master towards a large rock.

“You hush up!” he commanded the dog. “And as for you, Miss Long…”

Cover Reveal for KISSED BY THE OUTLAW

WELCOME TO MY NEW BOOK! Coming out TODAY from Blushing Books!

Determined to go on with her life following her divorce—and lose eight pounds, while she’s at it—Kelly Long sets off to hike up a North Carolina mountain with her dog, Mimi. The very last thing she expects to find in those woods is a portal, a doorway to another time and place, which transports her, toy poodle and all, back to 1871 Wyoming. Back to the Wild West, a time of cowboys, horses and wagons, and unfortunately for Kelly, a time when men weren’t shy about spanking a misbehaving wife.

Jess McSwain, formerly of the infamous McSwain Brothers, doesn’t know what to make of his “future girl.” For the past few years, the former outlaw has been doing his best to leave his past behind in favor of a quiet life as a farmer. But life with Kelly is anything but quiet. The career woman struggling to find the portal that will lead her back to the only life she’s known consistently find herself over McSwain’s knee. She also finds herself in his arms…which feels more like home than anyplace else she’s ever known.

Finally--an UPDATE!

Yes! I have to say, if I'm not the laziest blogger out there, I'd hate to see the one who DOES get that unenviable title!

Actually, I'm not really lazy...just seriously burning the midnight oil these days, with either writing my spanking romances or working on my vanilla titles. (Under another name, of course.)

But I'm coming out of that place deep within my newest book (see the cute illustration on the right? And no, that's not me, though I do kinda dress like that sometimes) to give a couple of updates. The first is that I've gotten word from my wonderful editor at Blushing Books that KISSED BY THE OUTLAW (my western historical/time travel romance) is coming out THIS month, probably towards the last week of Feburary. Bookmark my blog, because I might have an interview with one of that book's "stars"!

Also, just got back to work on my WIP, which now is titled YESTERDAY'S PRINCESS. I'm hoping to have more titles coming out this year than I've had in past years, so I'm trying to follow up KISSED BY THE OUTLAW with another new release. YESTERDAY'S PRINCESS is a contemporary spanking romance that hopefully will find its way to your ebook app/Kindle/Nook soon.

Oh, and I promise to keep popping out of my writing cave more often to bring you updates...and possibly much more. See ya soon!

New Year, New Books

Howdy! Really quick little note to say I'm very excited about 2015 & I hope you are, too. Waiting for the release sometime in the next few weeks of my latest book, KISSED BY THE OUTLAW, coming to you from Blushing Books.

Currently also about to start new projects, hopefully the most I've worked on in the past few years. With that, I'm also looking forward to blogging a lot more often. Lots of thoughts to share with you, news, maybe even some upcoming interviews with other authors that I love and I'm sure you do, too. Even if all I do is pop on here with a recipe, but I promise to keep in touch much more often, so bookmark this baby!

More news on KISSED BY THE OUTLAW to come. I'm happy to say that this is my very first time-travel romance, so I hope you keep an eye out for it.

For now, hope your New Year is fun, safe, happy & filled with lots of good books!

Hey, one more thing: Look for me on Facebook as well as Twitter.

Very Little Bacardi Last Night & Welcome 2015

Okay, so last night I wiped out my post announcing my new book, a time travel entitled KISSED BY THE OUTLAW. Not a lot of details yet, but this will be brought to you by the wonderful Blushing Books in the very near future.

So then I see that I had two posts with the same title. Duh. "New Book on the Way." I figured last night I might have hit something and published the same post twice. Totally deleted the announcement. Just in case anybody's wondering, I only had a teensy bit of Bacardi in my skinny Colada last night because I fell asleep before I could finish it. Not enough to have affected proper new-book-announcing. My husband had to wake me up to watch the ball drop in Times Square on TV. (I'm showing my age, but does anybody else miss Dick Clark???)

Anyway, here's the announcement that KISSED BY THE OUTLAW, a brand-spankin' new, spanking romance is on the way!

And may you have a Happy New Year! Welcome to 2015! It's always exciting to bring in a new year, with all its new opportunities, new experiences, and further chances for Bacardi in skinny coladas!
